Compete With Your Dad For Fabulous Prizes:

In honor of the event being held on Father’s Day, you can team up with your dad or your son/daughter and compete for prizes. The top two teams will receive prizes in the following categories:

  • Father-Daughter (10 & Under) (11-17), (18-35) (36+)
  • Father-Son (10 & Under) (11-17), (18-35) (36+)

Tie One On For Dad Competition:

In an exciting twist, runners may choose to participate in our “Tie One On For Dad” competition! Near the one mile mark, runners may enter the “tie transition” zone where they will select a tie, rush to tie a proper knot (windsors, small knots or four-in-hand…your choice!), race out of the transition and continue to the finish compete with your work appropriate necktie!

Runners who elect to participate in the run will receive a special commemorative mug at the finish line (you’ll need to return your necktie to get your mug)!

Not sure how to tie a tie? Help from others is allowed in the transition zone but you must have you tie tied before exiting. We’ll have referees on hand (and who also know how to tie a tie or two). Brush up on your tie knots here TieKnot.com.

Think you are the fastest at tying a necktie? Special awards for the top 3 male and females for overall time (run plus transition) and prizes for the fastest transition time (male and female)

Note: Runners do not have to participate in the tie transition, but the competition is so fun so how could you not want to join the fun? There is no pre-registration necessary for the competition.

Post Race Party:

New this year, there will be a huge Post Race Party at Pentagon Row. All participants will receive a free beverage after the event. Stop by and enjoy brunch with your Dad at any of the Pentagon Row establishments to celebrate the race and the day. All prostate cancer survivors will be invited to attend a pre-race reception prior to the start of the race.

Stroller Policy:

We believe a fit family is a happy family and allow strollers on our course. However, we do have some requirements: you must start in the back, you may not weave through packs of runners, and you must always yield the right of way to other runners.

Pet Policy:

Dogs on five foot, non-retractable leashes are permitted.

Dogs must be friendly, be up to date with shots, and have no history of fighting or biting. Pet owners take full responsibility for the behavior of their pet. Pet owners must start towards the back, may not weave through packs of runners, and yield the right of way to other runners. Pet owners must also clean up after their pet.

Join a Team Today:

Go the extra mile and create a team for the 2012 DASH4DAD on Sunday, June 17. Challenge your friends, family or colleagues to create to run (or walk) in honor of or in memory of a loved one. Teams can run/walk together as well as raise funds for ZERO — The Project to End Prostate Cancer. Click here and follow the steps in getting your team set-up and running for the DASH4DAD.

Fundraising:

Your registration fee gets you to the starting line, but it's fundraising that will help find the cure for prostate cancer. Don't wait to make an impact. Commit yourself to online fundraising for this year's DASH4DAD. Just click here to sign up to fundraise—it's an easy walk through the step process to begin fundraising online or tailor this sample letter to send out to co-workers, friends and/or family members to show them your commitment to ending prostate cancer.

All checks collected can either be dropped off at Packet Pick-Up or on Race Day or can be mailed to (please put your name and the race city in the memo line of the check) to:

D4D – Capital Area
515 King Street, Suite 420
Alexandria, VA  22314

New in 2011, we will have In Memory of/In Honor of Yard Signs along the course for those who make a $100 donation on their entry form or for anyone who raised over $100 on their online fundraising site. Another way to honor those who are currently fighting prostate cancer or a way to honor those who have been lost to this horrible disease.

Awards will be given to the Top 3 Overall Male and Female Finishers. The top 3 Prostate Cancer Survivor Finishers will win a $50 gift certificate to Lebanese Taverna. Prizes will be given to the Top 3 Males and Females in the following age groups: 10 & Under, 11-14, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 & Over

ChronoTrack Timing & Scoring:

Transponder timing operated by Pacers Events/RaceDC Timing will be used to score the 4 mile race. The system uses a computer tag which must be tied to each runners' shoelaces, and records the exact time a runner crosses the starting line and the finish line, resulting in a net time for each runner. Overall awards will be based upon clock time and age group awards will be based upon transponder times.

Hazardous Weather:

While every effort will be made to conduct the event, the race will be canceled if the weather is judged to be hazardous to the safety of participants and spectators. Entry fees will not be refunded if the event is canceled.
